Preparation of pleurax for making permanent diatom slides
Frustules – typical shells of diatoms – appear in considerable variability of forms and structures. Because of small dimensions, their characteristic details cannot be observed under an optical microscope without a high-refractive medium. In this paper, preparation of pleurax is described. Due to its high refractive index, this substance can be used as a mounting medium for diatom microscope slides preparation.
