abstract

The ability to provide first aid, particularly resuscitation, is crucial for saving lives in critical situations. Although first aid education is included in school curricula, it often remains limited to theoretical aspects, which may negatively impact students' practical preparedness for real-life situations. This study focuses on the importance of practical training and experiential learning in first aid education. The research involved 142 lower secondary school students, with data collection conducted in two phases. First, students completed a questionnaire assessing the perceived difficulty of individual resuscitation steps and showed their theoretical knowledge. In the second phase, they performed practical resuscitation on an electronic resuscitation dummy. The results revealed that theoretical knowledge alone does not ensure the correct performance of resuscitation procedures. The most significant difficulties were associated with providing artificial ventilation, but deficiencies were also observed in maintaining the correct compression frequency and depth. Based on these findings, we formulated didactic recommendations to enhance first aid education, emphasizing the importance of repeated practical training in resuscitation techniques.
