abstract

The present paper is a continuation of the author's thesis of the same name (see Šplíchalová, 2024), and the paper is also based on that thesis. The aim of the paper is to summarize, briefly, the main ideas and most interesting findings of the thesis, taking into account both the theoretical and practical background of the work, which ultimately led to the creation of worksheets for selected episodes of the series Once Upon a Time…Life. Furthermore, said worksheets are then presented, including the methodology for their use in the classroom, to the readers for the teaching of science (specifically human biology) in primary schools or in the corresponding years of multi-year secondary schools. In the theoretical background, the paper summarizes the findings on the opportunities for using videos, worksheets, and models in teaching. Subsequently, the series Once Upon a Time… Life is introduced, including a brief analysis of the series. Following the introduction of the theoretical background, readers are introduced to the quantitative research that underpins the didactic materials created for selected episodes of the series, in particular for the episodes on the circulatory, nervous, and endocrine systems. The focus of the work is related to the educational area of RVP ZV Human and Nature, the educational field of Natural History, and the thematic area of Human Biology, including the expected outcomes, specifically the expected outcome focused on determining the position, structure, and function of individual organs and organ systems in the human body.
